9 states drivers licenses are no longer good enough for TSA, now you'll need to do better to ride an airliner in the USA

The REAL ID Act (P.L. 109-13) establishes, what it calls, the “minimum security standards” for driver’s licenses and ID cards and restricts the ways in which you and I can use our IDs and licenses that don’t comply (Kentucky Maine Minnesota Missouri Montana Oklahoma Pennsylvania South Carolina Washington) with burdensome, expensive regulations to help the federal government create a huge national database of who you are, where you work, and where you travel.

It states that state-issued IDs from those 9 states do not meet the minimum security standards of the federal government, because those states failed to verify every ID applicant’s identity, put use anti-counterfeit technology in the production of the card, and failed to conduct background checks on those who issue driver’s licenses.

Residents of Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Washington will have to use alternate ID forms (passport, military ID, or permanent resident card) to pass TSA security checkpoints—even for domestic travel
