  1. When the First Cold War ended in the early 90s, a good number of MiG 21s made it to the US, bought by pilots who wanted a Mach 2 capable jets at relatively low prices. After a few years of horrendous fuel bills some of them decided maybe a 2 seat trainer, like an L-39 Albatros, might be a more sensible way to fly an ex-military jet. Wikipedia says they cost 2-300K apiece and that by now there a a couple of hundreds of them flying in the US.
