I had a job interview this morning with Siemens, to be a mechanic at the airport on the long conveyor belts that move and sort luggage, and I have no idea how that went. But I got this photo

This is the view, of airliners leaving the gates, from UNDER the gates!

The job seems to be pretty straighforward, do preventative maintenance on conveyors and carousels... but it takes getting a background check by the FBI, for the past 10 years. Not a problem for me, but it had me wondering... what's the point for a kid out of high school, they haven't lived yet! Once a person has a couple decades behind them, then it's proof they haven't been a criminal.

there's a LOT of GSE tugs/tractors... I'd love to work on those, but that's some other companies stuff.

  1. If you think that you would like the job then I hope and maybe pray for you! Not real sure my praying gets any attention with the real BOSS!

    1. I'll take the good wishes, skip praying. If that worked, kids wouldn't die of cancer. Ergo, prayer? Waste of time. But luck? We all know that luck works

  4. I was in Coast Guard aviation for 20 years and I will admit that I miss being at an airport.

    1. Dang, good for you! This airport, San Diego intl, is across the street from the Coast Guard's old amphib ramp, that used to have it's own stoplight intersection on Harbor Dr, so the runway was clear from water all the way into the airports normal runways. If you look at https://www.google.com/maps/place/San+Diego,+CA/@32.7267359,-117.1825388,420m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x80d9530fad921e4b:0xd3a21fdfd15df79!8m2!3d32.715738!4d-117.1610838!16zL20vMDcxdnI?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDcyOC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D
      You'll see what I mean.

I was stationed at NAS Miramar for 2 years, 95-97, and though I enjoy the quiet a lot more now, that jets aren't thundering though the neighborhood, it was cool to be on that base, because it was an airport.

    2. I was in an HU-16E and we taxied across a street getting into the CG Airsta there in San Diego, I thought it was neat!

    3. Whoa! Yup, that was Harbor Dr, and back about 25 years ago, I was stuck at that light while some aircraft was moved across it, that's what brought my attention to the CG station there, and the runway across the street.

  5. I guess somewhere down underneath those conveyors have little wheels! Yeah, praying doesn't do much, but a late friend of the family who didn't want her skepticism to get in the way socially used to say in such situations "I'm sending up flares." So let there be flares. Good luck.

    1. no, unlike tanks and snowmobiles, these don't have bogie wheels, it's long rollers, like roller pins that pastry chefs use.
Let the flares fly, and light the sky! Thanks!
