Long long ago I used a 66 VW truck for work, and it was, indeed, oh so slow, and also one of the worst handling and riding things I've ever driven. But its load capacity was enormous! It was rated for a full ton, and could, in a pinch, haul half again as much or more. Slow for sure, but if you could tolerate its ferocious handling, it could move just about anything anywhere.
