According to The Drive, one of the dealership employees, Ramon Suarez, was driving the new Camry to the airport to pick up a customer. While driving on I-10 in Phoenix during rush hour, a semi-truck hit the rear of the car at speed and sandwiched him into the back of another tractor-trailer. Ramon walked away without a scratch, and the Camry could have suffered way wore. The cabin is still intact, and all four doors still open.
The crumpled Camry was retrieved from a tow yard in Phoenix and brought to the showroom for display so as to show off the strength and stability of the Camry and how it can withstand such a major crash and yet save the life of its occupant.
The Toyota Camry of the latest generation is built on a modular TNGA architecture with redesigned zones of programmable deformation. The body of the sedan is made using high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels. Torsional rigidity is 30 percent higher than that of the previous generation.

With 4700 posts a year, it's just too much to look through to try and find it, even if I look through all the posts tagged with "crash", that's 460 posts. Or it might be under "wreck", 395 posts. DeleteI'll have to look too, I was a pick-up that got crushed between two semi's in either OK or TX. Driver crushed inside, but you couldn't see him, heartbreaking.

High-strength and ultra-high strength steel usually mean a high portion of carbon in the metal. Does it mean they barely rust (on the bodies)?

DeleteAn acquaintance of mine got sandwiched in a borrowed Tesla Roadster some years ago, and walked away from it unharmed. He tried to buy the wreck, but Tesla had it flown to California, to show prospective customers that even in a crash like this, the batteries wouldn't harm the occupant.
